Rope-way in Jermyk

View on the Rope-way and ski routes

n November 2007 the first line of a rope-way was set off in Jermuk town (resort- town, one of the most popular resort centres in the Soviet Union).

Mount Shish (traditional name) is 2850 m. high, the lift goes up to 2450 m. Now there are 2 routes in the mountain: the first 1400 m. long is for beginners, while the second 1300 m. long – for those who have some experience. The overfall is about 400 metres. The routes correspond to modern high standards.

There is a rescue service in the mountain which can give the first aid in case of necessity. The price of the chair lift is 1000 drams per an ascent, or you may get a ticket - 6000 drams a day. Reaching the summit you can refresh yourselves in the café (from tea to white fish or trout). It should be noted that It’s not so windy in Jermuk as compared with Tsaghkadzor. There is a rent of skis or snowboards near the lift.

Price: 6000 drams a day for a set of skis, boots, ski poles, helmets, or 10000 drams a day for a set of snowboards, boots, helmets. The price per an hour-training with an instructor is 10000 drams.

It’s possible to lodge in sanatoria, hotels or guest houses. The price in sanatoria includes preventive measures and healing (not obligotary). The accommodation almost in all sanatoria and some hotels includes three meals a day. Small hotels should be mentioned as well, for example Verona – very comfortable with fine spacious rooms, friendly staff and good food.

The distance from almost all hotels to the rope-way is about 1 km. You can take a taxi to get there (500 drams).

There are several banks in town, where you can exchange money, as well as cash dispensers available twenty-four-hour.

There is mobile connection everywhere – you can choose between two Russian companies MTS and Beeline (ex - VivaCell and Armentel correspondingly). The atmosphere in town is quiet, unhurried, favourable for measured rest. The natives know Russian perfectly and welcome tourists with their traditionally warm hospitality.

We recommend to pay particular attention to Jermuk if you are planning a holiday with children. There really domains a favorable atmosphere in town in every respect.

The distance from Yerevan is 178 km. It takes about 2,5 hours to get to Jermuk by car in winter time. Interesting tours can be organized on way to Jermuk upon wish, for example excursions in Noravank, or in the wine factory of Areni. The excursions in neighboring territories can be booked just in town. On the way to Jermuk it’s possible to acquire home-made wine at a very low price. There is a wide choice of wine, including pomegranate wine.

We would remind you that according to the law of «Tourism and tourist activity» the Armenian Government proclaimed Jermuk a tourist centre in 2008.
