This one-day trip will allow you to enjoy the wine region of Armenia, Vayots Dzor and explore the cave where the oldest known leather shoe and winery were discovered during the excavations.
Day 1
Yerevan – Khor Virap - Areni-1 (Bird’s cave) – Noravank –Old Bridge winery – Yerevan
Visit Khor Virap monastery situated in front of Biblical Mt. Ararat, on the left side of Arax River. The monastery is famous for its dungeon where St Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned.

At the entrance to the gorge on the right there is an unornamented cave, called Trchuneri Karayr (Bird’s Cave). Excavations in Bird Cave (Areni Cave) have uncovered large clay pots and jugs that have been dated to around 3500-3900 BC. The settlement is said to be the world’s earliest large-scale wine making facility ever found.

Visit Noravank Monastery (XIV c.), nestled among the spectacular mountains: the religious center of Syunik province.

Visit Old Bridge winery to have a tour, followed by a tasting of Armenian wine.

Back to Yerevan.
